North Shore Amateur Radio Club Packet Radio

The North Shore Amateur Radio Club offers a Packet Radio BBS for the benefit of Club members and other radio amateurs. The equipment is owned by the North Shore Emergency Management Office.

The BBS operates on the user frequency of 145.01 MHz at 1200bps, using the Club's VE7NSR callsign. There are also forwarding links on UHF which connect to the TPARC and VAPO networks. In times of non-emergency, the BBS is offered as a full-service BBS, and users can send and receive messages and bulletins either locally or worldwide.

The packet equipment consists of a computer, three terminal node controllers (TNCs) and associated radios/antennas which operate on the frequencies mentioned above.

Current software installed includes the Slackware Linux OS, and the popular XFBB and JNOS programs. The Worldwide Converse server can be accessed directly through VE7NSR-2. A Xastir (APRS) client is operating on 144.39 MHZ. Another feature offered is a Telpac node to access the Winlink2000 system. This node has the callsign VA7EMO-1 and can be found on 145.01 MHz.
